Hi everyone and welcome back for the 2011/2012 campaign.
This is your first newsletter of the new season, and as we did last season, we will run these newsletters through your Facebook inbox, the ‘TYO Facebook group’ and www.theyelloworder.proboards.com. From these newsletters we aim to inform you about the progress of the group in as much depth as possible without going on too much. So I hope you have all had a good summer break, and are now back with your voices at the ready to get behind your golden boys.
First on the agenda, I would like to welcome all the new members on Facebook now we have taken our total number of members to over 700! As always, we would like to see as many of your faces in the NEW seating area designated to TYO in the south west corner (RS5). This is something that has caused much debate as many of you would know, and something that was discussed for quite a long time last season. Well as some of you have experienced, we have taken the gamble to move to the section that was offered to us by the club after a slow start in RS4, and seating problems in that area. Touch wood, so far the gamble has paid off and the appearances we have made down there have achieved some significant recognition from the club, forums, local media and our own group members. I would like to thank everyone who helped make the move happen, and I hope you can agree with me that so far it has worked out well. Only time will tell whether that success with remain.
The relationship with the club and other fans is something we have really focussed on recently as it is something we find important in order to help us achieve. The best method of advertising is word of mouth, and if people enjoy their experiences with us, we will gain a lot more support and hopefully greater numbers to help us look and sound better. We are in constant contact with the club, who have been great with us so far. Thankfully, they also see our potential and can see how we can be of benefit to the team and to their customers match day experience. As some of you know, Roy has been working hard to get to meetings with the club to discuss our plans in terms of seating movement and displays we would like to do this season. He has also had an interview with the official website, the Watford Observer and on Watford’s Vibe FM.
I have had people enquiring about our scarves. We have sold out, but we are looking to purchase another 50 in the next couple of days which should have arrived by the end of October, so don’t miss out on your £8.50 TYO scarf. For those who are interested, we still have plenty of T-Shirts available for sale, but have limited sizes so again, grab your size and colour while we still have them in stock. They have not been selling as well as we would have liked, so when these T-Shirts are gone, they’re gone as we do not see it financially viable to produce this design again. They are selling at £12.50 and as with all the other money we make, it is all reinvested into the group to help us produce more merchandise and hire coaches for more away trips.
Following on, we have already looked into some away days for the group. However, the fixtures we have been looking for a way beyond our budget at this moment so we will be looking at getting some quotations for away games slightly closer that will be within our price budget. We will let you know in advance how much the coach will cost per person. We are open to your suggestions as always for your recommended away day. Leicester last year was very successful and overall a good day out, having a top laugh with a top group, so I hope we can repeat that.
I would like to re-iterate that so far this season the group has done a fantastic job and can be proud of themselves for the level of noise we are creating. I suspect that we can only get better at the moment, and with the clubs attendances so low at the moment, we need to give people an enjoyable experience so they are desperate to come back for more.
In terms of fixtures, we have Southampton away today where I know they are a fair amount of members attending so I look forward to seeing you there. Other than that, we have Palace in a couple of weeks time which will be a huge game in terms of picking up points and for this group to face a tough test in drowning out the sound from the Palace end which in recent years has been very loud. We will need as many people as we can get to that game and will have to be on top of our game if we are to succeed. Once again, I hope to see you all at that game.
The last point I need to make is regarding our Facebook page at the moment. As many of you know, Facebook is very temperamental and as I have tried explaining to some of you, most of the time we (Admins) a NOT deleting your messages and it is simply a case of the Facebook page having a fault. We are currently discussing whether or not to open a new Facebook group in the style of the official Watford Facebook group that has recently been launched. If we do go through with this, initially we will make the current page closed so only Admins can post on it, and we will redirect you to the new page where you are free to post as you would on the current page. We will keep the current page open for a month or so to enable people to read the messages from the Admins to redirect as many of the 700+ members to the new page as possible.
Thanks for reading this months newsletter, try and get yourselves down to the south west corner with us, and while you’re at it, why not pick up a t-shirt from one of the Admins?
